Holland’s UMYF will once again journey this summer to retreat at beautiful Lake Junaluska! This retreat is open to any youth in grades 6-12 during the 2021-2022 school year. The weekend will be led by a group called M28 Camp. The weekend will be filled with large group sessions, discipleship groups (D-Groups), workshops, worship, a talent show and entertainment. There will be special separate D-Groups for our seniors and for adults. We will leave mid-morning on Thursday, July 8, and return on Sunday, July 11, by late afternoon.
Registration: Please sign up by April 11. There is limited number of camp spaces for both adult leaders and youth so early registration is encouraged. A wait list will be kept in the event additional camp spaces become available.
Cost: Total retreat cost is $200. There is a $50 deposit by May 16 with the balance due by June 13, 2021. Retreat fee covers transportation, most meals, housing, t-shirt, and program for 4 days & 3 nights. Additional money will be needed for meals during travel and other activities.
UPDATE: We will be going White Water Rafting at the Nantahala Outdoor Center in Bryson City, NC on Friday afternoon! No additional cost is required. However, there is a waiver that must be signed by all those rafting. Please see the forms required on the registration site.
Payment can be made online on the church website under the GIVE tab (choose Youth Event) or by check. Whichever payment option you choose, indicate it is for Lake Junaluska and youth’s name. Cost is the same for the first 2 siblings in a family; additional siblings are free. Scholarships are available upon confidential request.
Discovery Weekend is a spiritual formation retreat for middle school youth led by high school youth and adult leaders that takes place at Holland's UMC. The theme for Discovery Weekend 2021 is "Discovering God's Love through Everyday Life." The weekend is intended to be holy and fun at the same time. There are fun and games, large group sessions including incredible music, life-changing disciple (small) group sessions, an afternoon adventure, delicious meals-all part of a full and fulfilling faith-building weekend retreat.
This retreat is led by high school youth and adult leaders who will meet at the church at 4 pm on Friday, August 13 for set-up, team worship, and supper.
This retreat is designed specifically for middle school youth who will arrive between 6:45-7:00 pm on Friday, August 13 to start the weekend. (Please eat supper prior to arrival.)
The weekend ends after the 11:00 worship service and Discovery Sunday Luncheon and Open Mic Session which will be about 1:30 pm. Family members are invited to join us in the service and for the luncheon!

There are important and unique aspects to this Discovery Weekend... Afternoon Adventure Hosts-This year, participants will go home on Friday and Saturday nights and return the next morning after breakfast. However, we will have a special activity on Saturday afternoon and supper arranged for small groups of 3-5 middle school youth hosted by Afternoon Adventure Hosts! High school youth leaders will have their own afternoon activity as a whole group. Letters-Parents are asked to collect 5 or more letters or emails for each young person in the family attending, both middle and high school youth. Letters are written emphasizing the author's love and God's love for the young person, excitement that the young person will have a chance during this Discovery Weekend to grow closer to God, and their willingness to support the young person's journey in faith. Letters should be brought to the church by drop-off on Friday evening. Prayer Service-Holland's congregation, family members, and friends are invited to attend the Prayer Service on Saturday, August 14 at 7:30 pm. This is a powerful service when all of our youth are immersed in prayer by everyone present! If parents cannot attend, please invite another family member or close friend to be there in your place. Sunday Luncheon-Middle School and High School youth and their families as well as the adult leaders including the Afternoon Adventure Hosts are invited to share a Sunday Luncheon and the Open Mic portion of the weekend. Please be sure to answer the question during registration about the number of people to expect for lunch. Register & pay $50* for Discovery Weekend 2021 by July 18 to reserve your spot! Holland's Youth High School Retreat will be at the Rockfish Camp and Retreat Center in Parkton, NC which is about 1 hr and 20 minutes from Holland's UMC. This retreat is open to any youth in grades 9-12 during the 2021-2022 school year. We will stay at the Bergland Retreat and Conference Center which has hotel type rooms with full baths and a conference area. Bed linens and towels are provided.
On Friday, high school youth and adult leaders will meet at the church at 4:30 pm. We will depart camp on Sunday at 11:00 am. There are a lot of outdoor activities at camp including a special high ropes/zip line adventure. There are 2 waivers to sign for everyone who comes to camp, youth and adults. Please see forms on the registration site. A more detailed schedule and packing list will be sent to all registered participants 1-2 weeks prior to the retreat. Register by & pay the $25 deposit by August 15, 2021. Cost is $100* which includes lodging, all meals (Friday night through Sunday breakfast), special camp activities, transportation, etc. The retreat balance is due by September 19, 2021. Holland's Youth Busch Gardens trip is scheduled for October 23, 2021 at Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, VA and is for youth in grades 6-12 who are active in any of Holland’s Youth Ministries.
Parents should consider if their youth will enjoy “scary” activities or not when deciding to register for this youth event as this trip is during Busch Gardens’ annual Howl-O-Scream event. Youth in 6th and 7th grade will be in groups led by an adult. Youth in grades 8-12 can walk the park in groups.
Meet at the church at 6 am on Saturday, October 23, 2021. Breakfast is on the way to Busch Gardens at a fast food restaurant. There will be a couple of “check-ins” during the day at the park. We will depart around 10 pm and return to the church around 2 am on Sunday, October 24.
What to Wear/Bring:
Wear appropriate clothes/shoes for the weather and a day of walking in the amusement park. (Consider bringing a sweatshirt or jacket as the weather may be chilly.)
Bring additional $ for breakfast at a fast food restaurant. $ for lunch, supper and snacks in the park (Plan on greater expense.)
Cell phones or other electronics are permitted as long they are used at appropriate times and have appropriate content. Adult leaders are not responsible for your belongings (Money, cell phones, jackets, etc.) Consider renting a locker either on your own or with a group of other youth.
Register and pay $100 by October 3 to reserve your spot on the charter bus. Total cost is $100 which includes charter bus transportation and Busch Gardens ticket. Payment is due by October 3 and can be made by check to Holland’s UMC or online at www.hollandsumc.org under the GIVE tab. If there is room on the bus after October 3, registration will be open for family and friends of youth.
Holland’s UMYF Retreat to Fort Caswell in Oak Island, NC is scheduled for Friday, April 22 through Sunday, April 24, 2022. This A weekend retreat to North Carolina's beautiful coast line is for both middle school and high school youth. The youth will enjoy fellowship while also growing in their relationship with our Lord. Designed and led by our youth and adult leaders, this retreat is our largest event of the year! We have a BIG house and plenty of accommodations for a large group. (Need at least 64 youth and adults for this particular house.)
The retreat begins at the church at 5 pm on Friday, April 22. We will eat supper at the church before we depart. We will depart on Sunday after lunch and plan to arrive at the church about 4 pm.
Register and pay $20 deposit by March 6!
Total Cost is $120 payable by check to Holland’s UMC or online at www.hollandsumc.org under the GIVE tab. (Please indicate the youth’s name and Ft Caswell on check or in comment section).
